Lynne Simonds for District Four

Why we need to support Lynne

Lynne has been a good friend of mine for some time now. I have never met someone who is as passionate or committed to this District as Lynne. She seems to be everywhere I turn - helping with the new park being built by women Together, meeting with seniors in the Webster Towers (she was the only dancing candidate at one forum), standing up against tax cheats and sweetheart deals, and promoting a great platform for everyone in the district.

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME IS THAT LYNNE IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD CANDIDATE!!!!!!!!

Contrary to rhetoric about people who are "pro-neighborhood." Lynne lives it - she's been here for decades, slogging it out for youth, for cleaner parks, for cleaner properties, for less crime, for less dumping and more economic development.

Second, she stands up for all citizens in the district, from what I have seen - whether helping College Hill neighbors worried about developments that include dynamiting ledge, or a real plan to help Elm Park. This is a campaign that is important for the people of this district - it is a microcosm of Deval Patrick's campaign insofar as there is a mass of grassroots people powering Lynne's run, and I can tell this groundswell will match the 100 plus volunteers we had last election day.

This campaign is crackling with energy already, and I am rearing to go.

Halloween

This is the son, dressed up as a witch for Halloween (b/c he hasn'tslept in 18months). he was pretty darn happy though, and he still wears the hat, or pasta, pretzels or any other "hat" he can find. the neighborhood was nuts, doorbells that generated smoke, people screaming in microphones, it definitely made an impression on maeve.

the elections

I find myself rather exhausted this time around, although obviously elated that the dems have finally scored for the first time since the clinton era. to quote my aunt liz, " i am worried that they will hold it together." me too. I hope that they manage to maintain the majority in the face of another likely republican presidency. as a massachusetts resideny, I pray for everyone that its not Mitt Romney. that phoney is busy punishing the poor with cuts in the budget and slamming gay marriage, all to burnish his conservative cred.

I have worked on a bunch of elections, rarely successfully, even as the occasional campaign manager. local campaign of note: Lynne Simonds for District 4. Lynne is now a good friend of mine who is making another bid for the district in which I work. She is a fearless progressive, and boy do we need one here, with 30% unemployment and 20% poverty rates. i have watched this district dissolve since Janice Nadeau left office, and we need a new voice. We harnessed 43% of the vote last time, and pulled in three precincts. WE have to work harded this time for sure.

All in all, its a perfect political storm for Worcester though. with our mayor in as lieutenant governor, and our congressman online for a powerful position with House rules, we are headed in the right direction (congressman mcgovern was voted 4th most liberal congressman for those who are interested). hopefully we won't have to beg for funds for the impoverished any more and we can start acting like a democratic state again, avoiding all those bullying vetos from the republicans that cut and slash vital services.

I decided to create this blog because I desparately need to update my technology skills which are frozen in the smithcornona word processor-era. I hope to sound off about issues here in wormtown, and also blod about happenings here with the fam, for those friends, etc. who want to check in. I will try to keep it fresh and updated (unlike my last stab at it, which ended with the first post) Stay tuned!!
